RYDER RECEIVES AWARD FOR PROMOTING FINANCIAL LITERACY AMONG VETERANS AND MILITARY SERVICEMEMBERS

VeteransPlus Awards the Ryder Charitable Foundation the Foundations In Support of Heroes (F.I.S.H.) Award

grph-fa-badge-foundation-2013Miami, Florida – National Financial Literacy month is recognized in the United States in April to highlight the importance of financial literacy and to teach Americans how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. In recognition of National Financial Literacy month, VeteransPlus, a 501 (c)(3) financial capability organization serving military members and Veterans, has established an award to recognize organizations that help foster financial literacy among military personnel and Veterans. Ryder, a leader in commercial transportation and supply chain management solutions, has been selected for the very first VeteransPlus F.I.S.H. Award. “Ryder recognizes the great sacrifices made by men and women in the military and is proud to provide meaningful assistance to service members, Veterans, and their families,” said David Bruce, Executive Director of the Ryder Charitable Foundation. “Whether it’s through support of organizations like VeteransPlus or involvement in Veteran hiring initiatives, Ryder is committed to helping members of the military successfully transition back into civilian life.”

VeteransPlus Executive Director, John Pickens, said, “We at VeteransPlus have a strong commitment to improving financial literacy among the military and Veteran population. We also believe that all forms of support to these Heroes should integrate financial literacy in order to be successful.”

Ryder has taken a leading role to support Veteran hiring. The company participates in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hiring Our Heroes program and is a member of the Chamber’s Veteran Employment Advisory Council. Ryder recently announced that it had exceeded its goal of hiring 1,000 Veterans. Last year, Ryder launched a new military recruiting website at www.ryder.com/military to help Veterans easily match their military skills with open positions at Ryder. On the website, Veterans can access an automated feature that enables them to search for jobs according to their specific Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) or Military Occupation Code (MOC). Once a Veteran enters his or her MOS/MOC into Ryder’s search engine, it will automatically filter the search to display open positions at Ryder that specifically match that job code. The website also enables Veteran applicants to search for jobs by geography, keyword, or job title.
